Cottages, Clay and the Streets Near the Station

The old township carries plumbing to match its age

The cottages of fibro and weatherboard by the railway station date from before 1940, when mining and the railway ran the town, and many still carry galvanised steel supply pipe. That steel corrodes from the inside, so weak pressure or brown water at the tap points straight at the pipe.

Below the floor, the clay has aged too

Earthenware sewers laid under the first township crack over time, and mature street trees feed roots into any gap they find. A drain that blocks twice on an old block needs a camera run before anyone picks up a shovel.

Low ground adds a third layer

Yards beside Cockle Creek have shallow groundwater, so heavy rain presses on those drains from outside as well as in. With the creek up, water rising in a floor waste or shower base is the first warning.

How Quotes Work Here

What you agree to at the start is what the invoice says at the end.

It costs nothing to get us out to your door (excluding after-hours). When we're not the right call: a heat pump that keeps tripping its circuit, or a faulty switchboard, needs an electrician rather than a plumber.

What the figure depends on:

  • Getting to the work A low crawl space under an old cottage, a ceiling void, or a unit boxed into a laundry
  • What the pipe is made of Clay, galvanised steel and PVC each take different tools and fittings
  • Parts For the specific system, from valves to whole tanks
  • After-hours Timing, which is priced differently from daytime work

Every job carries our 365-day warranty on all work. If something we did isn't right, ring the same number.

New Estates, New Numbers

The township is growing, and the plumbing is shifting with it

At the last census 2,654 people lived here in 929 dwellings, and area figures count 522 dwellings approved over five years. New detached estates pushed the population up 67 percent between the 2016 and 2021 censuses.

Newer homes bring different jobs

The new estates run PVC and polyethylene lines that resist roots, so the plumbing questions there are fit-outs, hot water upgrades and stormwater falls rather than cracked clay. Area figures count 1,660 heat pump hot water installs and 1,404 solar ones, a sign that plenty of old electric tanks have already been retired.

Straight Answers for Teralba Households

Do you charge a call-out fee in Teralba?

It costs nothing to get us out to your door (excluding after-hours). The plumber looks at the fault and writes down a fixed figure, and nothing is touched until you accept it.

Can you clear tree roots out of old clay drains?

Yes. The big old trees lining the original township's streets push roots into brittle clay sewers through cracked joints, and we clear them with the jetter or a cutting head. A camera run afterwards shows the line is properly open, not just partly flowing.

Do you replace hot water systems in the older cottages?

We do. Plenty of the pre-war railway and mining cottages still run old units, and the galvanised supply lines behind their walls can be just as worn. We quote the swap with any pipe work included, and a temporary tank can keep you in hot water meanwhile.

Which suburbs do you cover besides Teralba?

The same run takes in Bolton Point, Argenton, Speers Point, Booragul and Woodrising, each covered on its own page here, along with Boolaroo, Fassifern and Fennell Bay. If you are near the lake on this side, you are on the run.

Is the work guaranteed?

Every job carries our 365-day warranty on all work. Should a repair of ours play up within those twelve months, call and we come back to put it right. You won't need to re-explain the job or chase anyone.

Can a licensed gas fitter check a suspected gas leak?

Yes. Gas leaks are handled by licensed gas fitters with proper detection gear, and a suspected leak is always treated as urgent. If you can smell gas inside, open windows, leave the switches alone, get outside and ring us from the street.
